Southern Medical Program: Year 4
Hometown: Abbotsford
What inspired you to pursue your program?
I grew up in a family of nurses, from my mom, aunt, cousins, and now, my younger sister, everyone was involved in healthcare. Being witness to their strong work ethic and contribution to our community, I always wanted to pursue a career involved in medicine.
What are you looking forward to most this upcoming year?
I’m so excited to reunite with my friends from the other sites on electives, travel across Canada to experience new hospitals and cultures, and then reunite with my SMP family in the New Year!
Best piece of advice
When it comes to choosing a specialty, take the time to really sit down and think about what you want your life to look like in 10 years. If you are conflicted, seek out mentors who are willing to share the best and worst aspects of their specialty.
First job
I had a lot of odd jobs growing up that were really hobbies of mine that people were kind enough to pay me for, from coaching soccer, to tutoring students, to picking blueberries on our fields. I’d probably say my first official job, however, was as a Customer Service representative at London Drugs.
What’s next on your BC bucket list?
I’d love to explore Haida Gwaii! I spent my third year rural family practice rotation in Port Hardy & I am going back to the North Island for another family practice rotation in Port McNeill this fall. I’m hoping to catch a ferry over to the islands. They look incredible!
