2018 Clinical Faculty Award for Excellence in Community Practice Teaching: Dr. Michael Purdon
Dr. Michael Purdon is known as an excellent teacher and mentor by SMP students, UBC family practice residents, and his peers. His clinical teaching strikes the perfect balance between shaping learners while allowing them to develop their own personal practice style. Dr. Purdon’s work establishing the SMP’s Master Teacher Certificate Program has helped drastically change the medical education landscape across the BC Interior. Dr. Purdon is highly regarded for his outstanding leadership, professionalism, and contributions to the region’s medical education community.
2018 Clinical Faculty Award for Excellence in Clinical Teaching: Dr. Neil Hanon
Dr. Hanon is an exceptional educator and dedicated clinician. He was instrumental in developing and piloting the Psychiatry rotation for SMP students at Kelowna General Hospital. Since 2010, Dr. Hanon has involved medical students with the Outreach Urban Health Program and encouraged many students to create FLEX (Flexible and Enhanced Learning) projects to assist this at-need population. He has contributed immensely to the medical undergraduate and postgraduate program for UBC. The SMP would not be what it is today without his educational leadership and continued support.
